"Operation Occupation"--led by students from the Baltimore Algebra Project and other youth in Baltimore City "peer2peer" educational programs--continued into its second day today. It included an afternoon of students speaking out against the structural underfunding of the public education system, followed by an impromptu meeting with Baltimore City Councilman Bill Henry.

BREAKING NEWS 5/15 3PM: Operation Occupation at City Hall continuing, Mayor threatening to remove the protest from the plaza at 9PM tonight, community support and phone calls to the Mayor's Office (410-396-3835) needed!

Student organizers and tutors from the Baltimore Algebra Project gathered today at City Hall to demand that the city restore $3 million dollars in funding for Peer-to-peer education programs in public schools.

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Catonsville 9 and a tour of radical Baltimore of the 1960s--a two-hour bus trip unlike any you have experienced.

On May 1, all 29 ports on the U.S. West Coast are to be shut down as a result of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU), which is calling the action to be protest against the U.S. war on Afghanistan and Iraq. This is a historic event of international significance: Labor action against imperialist war by a major American union.

The Art Against War show has begun in the lobby of the Brown Center at MICA, featuring paintings, prints and collages by Iraq veteran artists. Along with these are many anti-war and related pieces by local artists. See photos below for a glimpse, but come by and SEE IT YOURSELF! The lobby is open everyday until 9:00 PM.

For one week the artwork of Iraq-veterans and local artists will be on display for auction at the Maryland Institute College of Art. The proceeds of the auction will benefit Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW).

Maryland residents continue to organize around changing the WYPR public radio station in Baltimore to be responsive to the community. Daily protests continue in advance of WYPR's April fund drive.
