Day 2 of "Operation Occupation": Demanding Baltimore City Restore Funding to Peer2Peer Educational Programs
"Operation Occupation"--led by students from the Baltimore Algebra Project and other youth in Baltimore City "peer2peer" educational programs--continued into its second day today. It included an afternoon of students speaking out against the structural underfunding of the public education system, followed by an impromptu meeting with Baltimore City Councilman Bill Henry.

Student organizers and tutors from the Baltimore Algebra Project gathered today at City Hall to demand that the city restore $3 million dollars in funding for Peer-to-peer education programs in public schools.

ILWU to Shut Down West Coast Ports May 1 Demanding End to War in Iraq, Afghanistan
In a major step for the U.S. labor movement, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) has announced that it will shut down West Coast ports on May 1, to demand an immediate end to the war and occupation in Iraq and Afghanistan and the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the Middle East.

All Out on May Day!
On May 1, all 29 ports on the U.S. West Coast are to be shut down as a result of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU), which is calling the action to be protest against the U.S. war on Afghanistan and Iraq. This is a historic event of international significance: Labor action against imperialist war by a major American union.

Art Against War exhibit begins at MICA
The Art Against War show has begun in the lobby of the Brown Center at MICA, featuring paintings, prints and collages by Iraq veteran artists. Along with these are many anti-war and related pieces by local artists. See photos below for a glimpse, but come by and SEE IT YOURSELF! The lobby is open everyday until 9:00 PM.

For one week the artwork of Iraq-veterans and local artists will be on display for auction at the Maryland Institute College of Art. The proceeds of the auction will benefit Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW).
