Media mogul, Mortimer B. Zuckerman, is pushing the Bush-Cheney gang hard to attack Iraq-a fifth rated military power. An ultra Zionist, he insisted Iraq has violated UN Resolution 1441. Meanwhile, his favorite country, Israel, stands in violation of over 66 UN resolutions. Zuckerman's pro war propaganda deserves full public exposure.

One year after the opposition's first "general strike," Hugo Chavez's opponents are engaged in their fourth employer-sponsored "general strike ." While it seems that the opposition's efforts to destroy the progressive government through non-stop media campaigns, large demonstrations, a coup, and four "general" strikes are failing, a management take-over of the oil company might succeed. Gregory Wilpert provides analysis.

In democratic societies freedom of speech is guaranteed. But this guarantee must be based in the right to be well-informed, a right now threatened by the increasing concentration of the media and the merging of formerly independent newspapers within larger corporate groups. Ignacio Ramonet comments.

Last August, the UN-sponsored World Summit on Sustainable Development in South Africa could not introduce any real constraints because they would have meant re-examining globalisation. So could sustainable development just be a pretext for maintaining a growth that must be, by nature, destructive to the environment?

United Airlines, with 81,000 employees, requested a $1.8 billion loan guarantee in order to avoid bankruptcy. The Bush-Cheney gang said "no." Israel, which never gets turned down for its loan quarantees from Uncle Sam, is seeking $10 billion. It doesn't have to pay back its loans either. Why the double standard?

The Ba'ath party polices Iraq for Saddam Hussein. It is cited by foreign governments as a major power, but few know how it is organised and how much support it genuinely has, as opposed to lipservice from ordinary Iraqis who need its approval to get by. David Baran reports.

The Bush administration cannot wait to attack Iraq. Harold Pinter argues that it seeks to do this not only to take control of Iraqi oil, but also because the United States government now only has bombs in its vocabulary for international relations.
