The U.S.-led war against Iraq is illegal, in violation of the U.S. Constitution, and the Charter of the United Nations. The American people have not consented to this war, yet it is they, the taxpayers, who must fund it. The price tag for this conflict has been estimated in the $100 to $300 billion range. Iran will be the next target for regime change. The war without end, prophesied by George Orwell in his tome, “1984,” has started. And, so has the extorted obligation of the duped taxpayers to pay for it. If this isn’t theft, then there is no such crime.

There is a coalition of the radical right in the United States, including the odd Democrat, that has long held that patriotic mobilization is important in holding American society together. When detente broke out in the 1970s, these hawks worried about any reduction in international tension, however slight. Since 11 September 2001 they have had no more worries.
