"A presidential milestone passed almost unnoticed Friday. For the first time in the history of televised news conferences, a president of the United States made fun of a bald person."
Dubya simply has NO class (or ethics or morals) at all.

Resistance to US occupation is growing, thriving on Iraq's instability. Former United Nations weapons inspector Scott Ritter argues that the Bush administration must acknowledge that an US-only solution in Iraq will not work. Political control of the occupation of Iraq must be transferred to the United Nations as soon as possible, and rapidly thereafter to the people of Iraq.

Many predict the demise of unions. But in 1932 the president of the American Economics Association made the same prediction and history proved him wrong. History can reverse directions even faster than the stock market. People are disgusted with the way things are, but don't believe they can win. Dan Clawson, author of "The Next Upsurge: Labor and the New Social Movements," reflects on the possibilities.

The Ten Commandments are in the news again! Chief Judge Roy Moore of Alabama's highest court is wrong about the Ten Commandments being the source of our judicial system. They are a part of American history, but they aren’t the source of our law.

Free Trade & War in the Creation of the New American Empire. By Susan Hawthorne

Global Outlook (Aug. 2003)

Susan Hawthorne examines the way in which the US is using free trade and war in the development of empire. Focusing on US-Australian relations, Hawthorne highlights the way in which John Howard and George W. Bush have locked together free trade agreements and war through the US, UK and Australian alliance in Iraq. She argues that free trade agreements are deeply rooted in the structural violence of globalization, including the possibility of endless war. Hawthorne also examines the ways in which women in particular are negatively affected by free trade agreements, and suggests that fundamentalism is an integral part of the operation of globalization and free trade.
