Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Friday, 1 April 2005. Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice.

Friday, 1 April 2005.

Al-Anbar Province.

Al-Hadithah.

Resistance mounts deadly rocket attack on US base in al-Hadithah.

Iraqi Resistance forces fired seven powerful surface-to-surface Tariq rockets into the US base in al-Hadithah in western Iraq. The bombardment targeted the eastern parts of the base, which was an Iraqi Army facility before the US invasion and occupation.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in the city reported local people who live near the base and witnessed the bombardment as saying that seven rockets blasted into the base, setting off a series of powerful explosions that sent columns of thick, black smoke rising over the facility for more than a whole hour.

A source inside the base, who asked that his name not be revealed but who works in liaison between the Iraqi puppet forces and the Americans, said that seven Tariq rockets struck the US base killing 12 US troops and wounding 21 more. Two Humvees and the electricity generator that supplies the whole base with power were destroyed. Storage tanks full of drinking water were also destroyed. The source said that the Americans who died were members of the 1st Engineering Division of the American Marines, considered a non-combat unit since their activities concern technical and engineering work for the US military.

Ar-Ramadi.

Iraqi Resistance land mine kills four US troops in ar-Ramadi.

An Iraqi Resistance land mine planted by the side of a road exploded under a US patrol in the as-Sufiyah area in the northern part of the city of ar-Ramadi. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in the city reported witnesses as saying that the bomb went off at 1pm local time, destroying a US armored vehicle and killing four US troops and wounding three more.

A source in the local Iraqi police confirmed that account of the explosion and the damage and casualties.

Baghdad.

Journalist for al-‘Arabiyah TV arrested at occupied Saddam International Airport for carrying films showing fighting in al-Fallujah.

Iraqi puppet security forces arrested a correspondent for the al-‘Arabiyah satellite TV network at occupied Saddam International Airport in Baghdad. Mafkarat al-Islam reported on Friday that a high-ranking official at the airport said that the reason for the arrest of Wa’il ‘Isam, the al-‘Arabiyah correspondent, was that he was found carrying compact disks that contained films of most of the events of the Battle of al-Fallujah that took place during the months of November and December 2004, and January 2005.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported the official at the airport as saying that puppet security men found the al-‘Arabiyah reporter to have films of a Resistance operation in which a large number of US troops were captured. He also had a film of of their being beheaded by bayonets, showing the captured Marines weeping and begging the Resistance not to kill them. Other films had come from cameras carried by the Resistance fighters themselves showing fights with sticks and clubs between Resistance fighters and US troops.

The source said that other films from the battles showed dozens of American vehicles and other equipment ablaze. The official, refused to give his name, said that the arrest of Wa’il ‘Isam has been a source of embarrassment to the US and Iraqi puppet forces because so far they have not explained the real reason for his detention.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam noted that the films, as described by the puppet official in occupied Saddam International Airport, are consistent with reports carried by Mafkarat al-Islam at the time of the US offensive on al-Fallujah.

Babil Province.

Al-Iskandariyah.

Nine American soldiers killed in Resistance bombing in al-Iskandariyah Friday morning.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US foot patrol in the city of al-Iskandariyah, south of Baghdad at about 8am Friday morning, killing nine US troops.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the puppet so-called “Iraqi national guard” as saying that the bomb was planted in the “island” in the median on al-Ahrar Street, and that the explosion killed nine American soldiers and wounded two more.

The source added that the bomb appeared to have been an Austrian artillery shell, a type of high explosive shell that has been widely used by Iraqi Resistance fighters, increasing the number of American invader deaths.

The correspondent reported that after the blast US forces surrounded the area and hauled away the corpses using two Cobra helicopters. Iraqi puppet security people prevented any journalists from approaching the scene.

Diyala Province.

Balad Ruz.

Resistance wipes out puppet police chief in Balad Ruz.

Iraqi Resistance forces in Balad Ruz, east of Ba‘qubah liquidated the puppet police chief in the city along with seven of his bodyguards, two of them officers in the puppet police themselves.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the city puppet police as saying that Resistance fighters attacked the motorcade of the puppet police chief, Brigadier General Salih Nasir, along with seven of his aides, one of whom was a second lieutenant and another a first lieutenant.

The source said that a Resistance roadside bomb exploded by the car and then more than 10 Iraqi Resistance fighters armed with light and medium-weight machine guns opened fire on the vehicle carrying the police chief, killing everyone in the car immediately.

The source said that the Resistance fighters were able to leave the scene safely, none of them being killed in the attack.

Karbala’ Province.

Karbala’.

Iraqi puppet police arrest four Iranians who planned to blow up Shi‘i religious gathering in Karbala’ in an effort to spark sectarian clashes.

Iraqi puppet police arrested four Iranians found in possession of explosives, machine guns, and land mines. The four were intending to enter a gathering of Shi‘ah near the mausoleum of the Imam al-Husayn where they planned to detonate explosives.

The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam in Karbala’ reported a member of the puppet police as saying that the four were located and arrested after staff in the hotel where they were staying tipped them off.

The correspondent reported that the puppet police tried to prevent news of the arrest from leaking out and did not inform the media about the incident. The correspondent witnessed the angry responses of Shi‘i Iraqis to the police behavior, however, saying that if the four had been Iraqis, the puppet police would have announced their arrest. Since the saboteurs were Iranians, however, the people were saying, the puppet police wanted to cover up the matter because the city police are controlled by the collaborationist Badr Brigades that work for the US occupation and are loyal to Iran.

The correspondent noted that pro-American Shi‘i religious authority ‘Ali as-Sistani specifically called for allowing Iranians to enter Iraq to observe the 40-day period of mourning for the Imam al-Husayn (killed at the Battle of Karbala’ in the year 680 CE.)

On Thursday the Iraqi Resistance announced that it had executed 19 Iranian agents who had infiltrated into Iraq around the border town of al-Mundhiriyah to carry out sabotage and murder. (see report from al-Mundhiriyah in Diyala Province in the Iraqi Resistance Report: Thursday, 31 march 2005.)

Al-Basrah Province.

Al-Basrah.

Resistance blows up puppet police car in al-Basrah, Thursday.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by an Iraqi puppet police patrol as it was passing an intersection in the ad-Duwayd area of the southern city of al-Basrah on Thursday. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported witnesses as saying tha the blast destroyed a puppet police car, killing or wounding those aboard. The al-Hasan al-Basri Brigades issued a communiqué in which they took responsibility for the attack.

Sunni Muslims in the city of al-Basrah issued a statement to all print and electronic media calling on honest and upright Arabs and Muslims to intervene to support their just cause which is being basely distorted. The statement said that the media were fully responsible before God the Almighty for distorting them and their cause.

The statement said that the Sunni community in al-Basrah is now between the hammer of the Anglo-American occupation forces and the anvil of the Iranian secret services that are carrying out, in southern Iraq in general and in al-Basrah specifically, plots on the broadest possible scale to exert their power over the city. The Iranian secret services have used the “ugliest forms of murder and repression,” the statement said.

“Not content with that,” the statement went on, the Iranians have “sent forces that they formed with their own hands and trained according to their hateful sectarian desires with open support from the occupation forces to storm into Sunni areas of al-Basrah, attack our holy places, and then make use of their vile information media to portray the Sunni population as a “terrorist” people. Things have gone so far that they have begun to broadcast baldfaced lies and hateful inventions against us.”

“An example of what we are talking about happened two days ago when the so-called ‘national guard’ (though the nation has nothing to do with them) carried out a barbaric and random invasion of the Sunni al-Ajbal area. There they ransacked peaceful houses, defiled mosques in the area, kicked in doors with their feet, tore up copies of the Qur’an and threw them on the ground, and even went so far as to insult and profane the Companion of the Prophet Abu Bakr and described the mosque as a Wahhabi lounge. All of this has been reported by eyewitnesses, some of whom were arrested and later released. Eighteen Sunni youths were arrested, all young men associated with the mosque. They were blindfolded and paraded before the al-Hurrah TV cameras which broadcast a whole report on the “arrest of ‘terrorists’” who were supposedly rigging cars to explode so as to kill Iraqi civilians.”

The satement said that the al-‘Iraqiyah TV station did the same thing “in an intentional campaign to defame the Sunni people. The proof that the stories were total fabrications is the fact that the young men who were arrested for supposedly being hardened murderers and filmed for the reports were then released just hours later,” the statement concluded.
