WILPF 90th Anniversary Luncheon April 9 at Goucher

THE WOMEN'S INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE FOR PEACE AND FREEDOM, THE OLDEST AND LARGEST WOMEN'S PEACE ORGANIZATION, CELEBRATES 90 YEARS OF EDUCATION AND ACTION FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE ON APRIL 9TH, 2005

The Baltimore and Catonsville Branches of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) will celebrate the 90th Anniversary with a fund-raising luncheon and program hosted by the Peace Studies Department at Goucher College on Saturday, April 9th, 11am to 3pm. WILPF works to achieve through peaceful means: world disarmament, full rights for women, racial and economic justice, and an end to all forms of violence. WILPF has 100 community and campus branches in the United States, sections in 37 countries, and has had consultative status with the United Nations since 1948.

The program will feature WILPF International President Dr. Regina Birchem as the keynote speaker presenting, "Continuing a Feminist Agenda for Human Security" The Next WILPF Decade. Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX), a sponsor of the United States Section of WILPF, will describe her initiative "A World of Women for World Peace."

In a dramatic presentation, WILPF member and local actress, Vivienne Shub, will dramatize an original account of the founding of WILPF and the role of Jane Addams. Members will also honor the work of Minnie Hoch, who has been an active member of WILPF for over 30 years.
