Despite being heavily armed, 20 German soldiers abandoned the Serbian monastery in the face of 200 "women and children" Albanian protestors. The 11th Century facility was burnt and looted.

The POGROM, which took place a year ago, left much damage, churches, monasteries, Serbian houses, cemeteries. In spite of all that some Serbians remain determined to stay in Kosovo, while the impotent NATO and KFOR military participants proved how little they can do in face of an organized attack. The referenced Canadian article carries a series of Scott Taylor photographs which speak for themselves. For the international agencies attempting to rebuild war-ravaged Kosovo into a tolerant, law-abiding, multi-ethnic society, the past five years have proven to be an often frustrating experience.
Despite the European Union's provision of controlled land fill sites and the issuance of strict prohibitions on private gravel dredging from Kosovo's already badly damaged riverbeds, many residents simply ignore the regulations pertaining to environmental protection.
