Irish Activist Andrew Flood to Speak This Friday in Baltimore

Andrew Flood, writer and activist from Dublin, will be speaking on the anti-war movement at 8 p.m. this Friday night at Red Emmas. He specifically will address the campaigns that surrounded the U.S. use of Shannon airport for flights to Iraq. Red Emmas is located at 800 St. Paul Street in Mt. Vernon.

The Red Emmas event calender this weekend is full. A Riot Folk concert with Ryan Harvey, Evan Greer, and friends will take place at 8 p.m. as part of the nationwide March 19, 2005 protest against the second anniversary of America's invasion of Iraq. The first strike of missiles targeting Saddam Hussein in his palaces occurred on March 19, 2003.

On Sunday night at 7 p.m. the Beehive Collective will be stopping in Baltimore at Red Emmas to talk about Plan Columbia. The Beehive Collective is a Maine-based travelling collective that uses art and murals to education about globalization, and specifically about globilazation in Central and South America. Plan Columbia is the U.S. "drug war" plan that officially began a few years back when Congress granted the Columbian government a billion-plus dollar military aid package that included a healthy supply of Blackhawk helicopters and funds for military-contractor advisors, among other things. Learn more, as well as bring your knowledge, to Beehive Collective talk and mural show at 7pm this Sunday at Red Emmas.
