Every year millions of cats and dogs are tortured and skinned alive in full
view of other animals for their skin.
Dog and cat fur, when dyed, is not easily distinguishable from fox, rabbit,
coyote, wolf or mink fur. Since dog and cat fur is usually less expensive
than furs from many other species, there is a financial incentive for
traders and importers to engage in unethical and fraudulent practices. Many
of the pelts are intentionally mislabelled as fictional creatures such as
Asian Jackal and Gaewolf or are labelled simply as 'animal by-products'.
They are sold as coats, rugs, stoles, accessories and novelty toys in high
street shops to unsuspecting consumers.
