Someone gave me a copy and I’ve just watched it. Its far worse than I thought...

As far as I was I concerned, for all the surface anti-war rhetoric its actually a pro-war film. Before he gets stuck into the war in Iraq, he basically says that we didn’t bomb Afghanistan any where near hard enough, and that we should bombed the crap out of Saudi Arabia too.

In that context, his horrific images of Iraq are really delivering the message “the only thing wrong with this is that we did it to the wrong country.”

I’m not familiar with all of its alleged facts, but of the factual material that I am familiar with, nearly all of it was inaccurate, so I can only assume that the facts he cites with which I’m unfamiliar with are just as inaccurate.

I also took offence at the blatantly racist shit that he poked at the “tinpot “ countries that were part of the coalition, as a way of mocking the idea that anyone else had joined the US, while it somehow slipped his mind to mention the militarily significant countries of UK, Italy, Australia and Poland.

We get 15 minutes of an American mother crying over he lost son, 1 minute of Iraqi’s doing the same and as far as Afghanistan goes, all we get is a smirk that they “mostly got away” and a gentle rebuke that we didn’t hit the place harder.

To call it one big heap of bovine fertilizer is being kind to it. Its pro-war, its racist, its lying about Sept 11, and its pretence to be “alternative” is simply that he’s got some kind of personal vendetta against one small element of the criminal elite – the Bush/Reaganites.
