With the third and final City Council vote on the Comcast Cable contract scheduled for Monday December 6 at 5pm, Tom Kiefaber of the Historic Senator Theater has dedicated his marquee sign and his large mailing list to the cause. This article urges people to put the "public" behind the call for postponing Monday's vote.

Senator Theater Weighs in on Public Access TV
On last Friday, when The Senator Theatre owner Tom Kiefaber heard the details of how the Mayor's Office was steering Comcast Cable franchise fees away from Public Access TV he was dismayed. When he heard that the third and final vote was Monday, December 6 at 5PM he said we've got to stop the vote and have more public scrutiny.
These sentiments of his are now reflected The Seanator Theatre marquee, which reads "STOP THE COMCAST CABLE CONTRACT. BILL 04-1504 NEEDS PUBLIC SCRUTINY. CONTACT YOUR CITY COUNCIL PERSON."

The issue is of sufficient gravity that Baltimore Channel 11 TV WBAL spent Sunday night interviewing people with Baltimore Grassrootsmedia who were phonebanking at the offices of ACORN. As of December 6 at 7am, the web site of WBAL TV was featuring "Deciding On T.V. Public Access In Baltimore" as their lead story.

You are the Public
Public Access TV is our best hope for alternative media in the realm of television, the medium most accessed by the general public.
According to WBAL TV Baltimore city council president Sheila Dixon calls the contract a fair compromise. "We haven't gotten a great outrage, but based on those people who did come to council and think we came up with a good plan to provide them with opportunity money to move forward," Dixon said.
Show Dixon there is "great outrage."

WHAT TO SAY:
"Please postpone the final vote on the Comcast contract, because amendments have been added that have not received sufficient public review."
Those leading the campaign to build meaningful Public Access TV in Baltimore are fighting this all the way, including legal challenges of the administrative proceedures, other procedural matters and content of the contract. However, they need to be backed up by a drumbeat of public support, starting with a deluge of calls and FAXes today.
