6. SOLIDARITY LETTER FROM THE APRIL 19-22
MOBILIZATIONS

Dear Sisters and Brothers,
April 10, 2002

The weekend of April 19-22 in Washington, D.C. will be historic, and we hope you will be there! We hope you will work over these next 10 days to bring many others with you! There will be tens of thousands of us; let's make it as many as possible!

Even the corporate media is beginning to carry news about our events. In the April 7th New York Times, an article reporting on the protests against what Israel is doing in the West Bank carried this paragraph: "A march planned for April 20 in Washington suggests the kind of coalitions that are forming: it is to include pro-Palestinian groups from Howard and George Washington universities, demonstrators from environmental groups, supporters of a living wage and protesters of the United States military buildup."

Indeed, one of the significant aspects of this weekend extravaganza is the coordination taking place among the Colombia Mobilization, the April 20th Mobilization, the Mobilization for Global Justice, International ANSWER and the Committee in Solidarity with the Palestinian People. It is a sign of hope that, despite differences, these groups have been able to find ways to work collaboratively.

This unity in action is coming not a minute too soon. In the face of all that has been taking place in this country since September 11th, up to and including the U.S's destructive role as far as the Israel/Palestine issue, we need to turn out in massive numbers over this weekend. We need to demand an end to U.S. support of Israel's occupation and active support for a Palestinian state; a U.S. foreign policy based upon social and economic justice, not military and corporate oppression; a reversal of the dramatic escalation of the military budget; repeal of the Patriot Act, an end to the degrading and secret imprisonment of immigrants and defense of civil liberties, civil rights and immigrant rights; government funding for programs to benefit the economic victims of this society; full disclosure of military contracts with universities; increased funding for non-military-based financial aid for education; ending U.S. military assistance to Colombia, stopping aerial fumigation and closing the School of the Americas; a cancellation
of all impoverished country debt to the IMF/World Bank; and an end to IMF/World Bank policies and support of projects that hinder people's access to food, clean water, shelter, health care, education, and the right to organize.

If you agree with this program, let's go all out over this last stretch of time! We look forward to seeing you over the April 19-22 weekend!
