Baltimore IMC Open House Rousing Success
Fifty media activists turned out for Baltimore Independent Media Center's second open house. Held at the Progressive Action Center on Wednesday, August 25, the informal meeting provided the opportunity for a diverse group of media-engaged people to resume, and in some cases begin, a process of city-wide networking. By the end of the spirited meeting and half a case of great wine (selected by the IMC sommelier) cards, flyers, and internet addresses were exchanged, and some IMCers began talking of a follow-up meeting.
#file_1#The meeting, facilitated by IMC collective member Jim George, opened with a brief history of the IMC movement and Baltimore's involvement. It closed with the Megaphone Project's video history of the displacement of the residents of Sharp-Leadenhall and their struggle to regain their neighborhood.
Among the media groups participating were: the Alternative Press Center, Baltimore Grassroots Media Alliance, Baltimore News Network, Wide Angle Community Media, Megaphone Project, Social Anarchism–the magazine of current anarchist writing, and Red Emma's book store.
Baltimore IMC holds its next open meeting Thursday, September 2, 7:30 pm at the Progressive Action Center.
