Press Conference, Rally & March
Tuesday, August 31st
Baltimore City Republican Party Headquarters
2516 N. Charles Street
Gather for press conference & rally at 4:30 PM
About 5:30 PM we will march to US Congressman Elijah Cummings office, 1010 Park Avenue
Darfur in Western Sudan now faces the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, with 50,000 people already killed and more than a million internally displaced. International aid organizations say 350,000 may still die even if humanitarian relief arrives now. The UN Security Council passed a resolution that gave the Khartoum government 30 days to stop the conflict or face punitive measures. Every day of inaction results in more deaths, more suffering.
The Congressional Black Caucus (chaired by Rep. Cummings) has issued a powerful statement on the genocide, and has an online petition at
www.democraticaction.org/petitions/Sudan.htm. The U.S. Congress voted unanimously to declare the conflict genocide and called on the Bush Administration to act.
The people of Baltimore gather in front of the Republican Party headquarters in Baltimore to demand that our government do what the American people want it to do: feed the starving people and stop the genocide. We can’t sit idly by allowing another Rwanda to occur, and then profess our sorrow 10 years later. We then march to Rep. Cummings office to express our support for the public stand that he and the CBC have taken as positive first steps. We will call on him to use his influence to have the Kerry campaign make American inaction a major campaign issue.
