Judi Bari Vs. FBI Solidarity Demo At J. Edgar Hoover Bldg. April 8th, Noon.
Join us in protesting years of FBI lies and intimidation against the Earth First! movement.
On April 8th, 2002 the long awaited case of Judi Bari vs. the FBI will finally start up in US Federal Court in Oakland, CA. Join us in a solidarity demonstration in front of the FBI's Washington, DC headquarters that day at noon. We'll be there with signs, smiles, and a big stack of muckraking anti-fibber literature!
Earth First!ers have been the victims of a long campaign of lies, propaganda, disruption, intimidation, and violence coordinated by resource extraction industries and corrupted police and politicians - including the FBI which has gone so far as to send agents provocateurs to browbeat EF!ers into acts of violence and destruction.
In May of 1990, EF! organizers Judi Bari and Darryl Cherney were on their way to an organising event for an upcoming anti logging campaign to protect the remaining redwood forests. A bomb with a motion trigger exploded underneath Judi's seat while they were driving thru the streets of Oakland. Contrary to all the evidence in the case (but entirely consistent with their goals of discrediting all sucessful environmental and social justice campaigns) the FBI and the Oakland PD attempted to pin the blame on the victims. Interestingly, the bomb was identical to one constructed and detonated at an "anti-terrorist" seminar held by FBI instructors on Louisiana Pacific property and attended by LP employees. LP was the timber company on the receiving end of the anti-logging campaign that Judi and Darryl were helping to organize.
After much effort they finally cleared their names but the questions still remain: Who bombed Judi and Darryl? Why did the FBI and the Oakland PD conspire to blame them? They initiated a lawsuit against the FBI, and after years of FBI delay and obstruction the case will finally get heard.
