March 27 marks the beginning of something BIG. In this day and age, people tend to receive their information via entertaining, graphical media. A number of social justice movement activists in Baltimore recognize this, and want to do something about it.
A Simple Graphic Can Say So Much
What: "Forum for Creative Organizing" Hands-on, how-to workshops using creative art to mobilize for social justice. A forum for networking with people who share this creative vision. A first step on a longer path together?
Who: Artists, educators, organizers, activists, community groups and students. Anyone who cares about the fate of our community and country.
Workshops include:
Puppetry and the Arts of Protest Nadine Bloch.
Nadine is a non-violent direct action trainer with 20 years experience who does workshops on everything from strategic planning to puppetry and political arts.
EnACTing and IMAGEning Dialoge Brian Francoise.
Brian is an Associate Professor of Theatre at Goucher College who has used “theatre for social change” in arts organizations, schools and non-profits.
Songs of Protest, Songs of Change.
Learn social justice songs of the 1930’s and 1960’s, and create new songs for today’s social movements.
Brainstorming Possible Projects
A facilitated discussion about the needs and opportunities for using creative avenues for communication.
Next Steps
A facilitated discussion about the future. Can we create a common vision or a set of related visions? How can we build on this creative convergence?
