Join us, The Next Step Collective, in helping to lay the groundwork for an over 220-mile march from the Democratic National Convention in Boston to the Republican National Convention in New York City. Throughout the month of August we will travel from one mass mobilization to another, from one city under a police state to another city under seige. We will celebrate and connect the many diverse grassroots movements, redefining the political process to be one centered around the people and ecosystems of our planet. Change isn't going to come from the top, so we will work from the roots, planting seeds for a better world as we march.
As the political gears of the two-headed Corporate Party kick into overdrive, we will not be fooled and pacified by the thin veil of democracy draped over the repressive machinery of US empire. Instead of getting sucked into the multi-billion dollar puppet show of US elections, we will be marching, networking, educating, sharing, singing, and dancing in the streets – for 220 miles. We will march about 10 miles a day, working with local grassroots organizations for community empowerment connecting many popular struggles in the global solidarity; one which recognizes no borders, fences, or walls-- one which unites our needs and concerns into a collaborative exploration of solutions. We are everywhere, and we must make this known by demonstrating our collective energy.
We stand together with all those working to protest the conventions and kick the war-mongering Bush regime out of the White House. Yet, our focus will be on taking the next step: looking beyond the next elections, the next protests, the next generations. Our gaze will be set firmly upon a collective vision rising out of the grassroots: one of direct democracy, just and fair labor, health care, education, environmental harmony, indigenous sovereignty, sustainable food sources, and an end to discrimination, militarization, and global corporate power. The rigged two-party system, designed to pacify the people and keep the rich and powerful in control, fails to address this diverse and impressive array of issues. With all eyes on the unfolding US election drama, our movement will be in the streets connecting distances, ideas, communities, and visions, as we conduct teach-ins, plant community gardens, demonstrate, listen, and share. Our actions will be voting for what we truly believe in and what we know is possible.
We refuse to be intimidated into silence.
We refuse to be invisible.
We are sowing the seeds of a liberated future.
Let’s make history.
