Corporate Media freebie for Lieberman
This Letter to the Editor (not published) protesting a freebie worth thousands of dollars to Senator Joe Lieberman from The Hartford Courant, was sent over a month ago. This freebie would cost thousands of dollars as a paid advertisement. All letters protesting this questionable gift were sensored.

A John Rowland Freebie for Joe Lieberman
In this Sunday’s Hartford Courant’s op-ed section and entire half page was an endorsement/advertisement titled “Lieberman Gets New Republic’s Vote As ‘Brave, Consistent’” Will Joe be getting billed for the thousands of dollars this space would normally fetch, and for the art work used to idealized his mug, or is this simply like one of those Governor John Rowland freebie deals that the Courant piously criticizes.
Being “consistent’ is neither good or bad. Editors can easily pick and project consistent qualities onto individuals to fit their spin. Joe was the only Democratic Senator in New England to support the two recent wars on the people of Iraq. Joe is also consistent in the annual giveaway of billions of our tax dollars to blindly support the expansionist policies of the Sharon government. So, while Joe may be consistent, his positions on these important issue are not in the mainstream of the Democratic party, hence polls show him getting about 2% of the vote in Iowa and about 8% in New Hampshire. Even Gore now belatedly understands that the selection of Lieberman as his VP was a terrible mistake.
Joe like the Bush I and II, was consistent in using whatever lie needed to prod the American people into going to war, In the first Gulf War, it was the infamous Saddam baby killing lies, and in the second war it was the many lies about Iraq being an imminent threat to the U.S. with nukes and other WMDs.
As a Korean War infantry veterans who served with many really “brave’ soldiers who died on the battlefield, I find that using the word “brave” for Lieberman, a flag-waving, chickenhawk to be disgusting. When all such phonies had the actual opportunity to go to war and serve their countries they declined to do so. Promoting wars to send, young and innocent soldiers to kill or be killed takes no guts.
Thankfully, it’s Democratic activist (informed and motivated people) who will determine who will be the presidential candidate and not ritrh-wing New Republic or Courant editors. All polls indicate that the desperate mean spirited attacks launched by Lieberman to damage Governor Dean (and help Bush) are disliked by most Democratic voters.
An early front runner in national polls, Lieberman is now seen as a bad medicine by most Democratic voters who are tired of uncaring, greedy career politicians. I wonder if The Courant remembers how Lieberman voted himself a huge pay raise during his very first Senate term, and how he refused to resign his Senate in his run for VP. And now again, while running for his party’s nomination, living in NH and once more ignoring the people he should be serving.
