We need strategy. Who can be the left’s Karl Rove?

I have seen discussions on the left about tactics and strategy, but most of them are based on “well, I did this and it worked OK” and “don’t do this, I did it and it was a disaster.” I have not seen focus groups, polls, or serious research of political demographics, trends, history, and so forth. I have not heard anyone say "Hey, hey ho ho" is favored by urban professionals by 2 points over "Down with..."" and I've never heard of Karl Rove saying "Well, once I burned a flag and got on the news, so why not try it again?"

But we all know who keeps inexplicably winning.
