Gulf War Vets Say Bush Administration is Hiding the Truth about the 'Mystery Pneumonia" Now Striking Scores of Iraq Troops
Mark Neusche, father of US soldier Josh Neusche who died recently in Iraq from "mystery pneumonia" says that while visiting his comatose son at Landstuhl Hospital, he overheard the nurses say they were expecting many sick troops to be brought in all at one time. "In fact, the father actually witnessed approximately 55 other troops being received by the hospital after they were transported by a military ambulance (bus),"according to a report at the American Gulf War Veterans site."...the transported troops were exhibiting varying degrees of the illness. Some walked, some were in wheelchairs and others were on respirators. In the commotion, a doctor reported to the father that his son was suffering from a “toxin.” No mention of pneumonia was ever made to him, nor was it ever reported in the medical record."
Meanwhile, HALF of all Gulf War veterans who were in Kuwait and Iraq have filed for disability as their array of "mystery illnesses" play themselves out with devastating results.

Bush Reich Now Says If You are Poor, You Are a Threat to National Security! Unbelievable!
"In 19 years of using his security clearance to sweep floors at a plant owned by defense contractor Lockheed Martin, janitor Michael Lynch has done nothing to arouse suspicion. Co-workers and bosses speak glowingly of Lynch, a brain-tumor survivor who's active in his church, building homes for poor people in Maine and West Virginia. Yet because he and his family have struggled financially, the government now sees him as a possible threat to national security. Defense Department officials say the janitor may be tempted to sell government secrets to get out of debt. Last month, they asked a judge to revoke Lynch's security clearance." (Boston Globe) So now being POOR makes you a THREAT to national security? When will it end? Impeach the whole lot!

Iraq War and Reconstruction Has Driven Oil Prices UP, Not Down, and They Will Get Higher - Just In Time for Winter
"Fuel prices have risen over the last two weeks, and analysts warn that the increase may be an early signal that prices of gasoline and heating oil could stay higher than usual through the end of the year, in large part because of chronically low stockpiles of crude oil and petroleum products in the United States." reports the NY Times. How can this be? My guess is that Bush and Co. tapped into reserve oil supplies and other stockpiles to keep oil prices and supplies artifically jacked up so people would not oppose his war schemes on the grounds of oil supply/price fears. He gambled that as soon as Baghdad fell, he could make up the difference easily with free and easy Iraqi oil. But such was not the case, as his only plan for Iraq reconstruction was to turn on the oil. Little details like water, food, medical supplies, real democratic government, and adequate policing for the people didn't figure into his schemes. As a result, as the NYT writes, "More than three months after Bush declared an end to the war, the Iraqi oil industry is pumping only about a million barrels a day, less than half its prewar output, and exporting oil only sporadically. While the war left the oil sector largely unscathed, postwar looting has decimated the industry, and persistent sabotage of pipelines and other installations has delayed exports."

Anger and Suspicion Grows over Bush's Flagrant Cronyism in Contract Awards in Iraq
"One of the main bidders for the lucrative contract to rebuild the Iraqi oil industry has dropped out of the race, amid concerns that the tender process unfairly favours Halliburton, the company with close ties to the US vice-president, Dick Cheney. The construction giant Bechtel, one of the biggest engineering companies in the world, now plans to sidestep Washington and apply directly to the Iraqi oil ministry for work. The growing disquiet over cronyism in George Bush's administration was further stirred yesterday when it emerged that a friend of the president who helped his election campaign had been hired as the director of private development in Iraq. Thomas Foley, 51, befriended Mr Bush when they attended Harvard (Guardian error - should be Yale). He will be in charge of 200 state-owned enterprises including mining, chemical, cement and tobacco production, and report directly to the top US administrator in Iraq, Paul Bremer. " In short, Bush business as usual.

Why Won't Bush Allow Iran to Have Nuclear Power Plants? Could Fear of Reduced Dependence on Oil Be the REAL Reason?
This week, Iranian leaders again asserted that their country does not have any intention or desire to develop nuclear weapons. They simply want the right to develop nuclear power, which would reduce the dependence on, and the importance of, oil in Iran. They continue to state, as they have for many years now, that if their right to nuclear power generation is recognized as their legitimate right, then they will welcome unlimited inspections by the UN. But Bush has refused, and as his lust for expanding his war increases, his rhetoric and insinuations have intensified.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran will not give up nuclear technology as a basis for legitimate power," state television quoted President Mohammad Khatami as telling Iran's most senior officials."Iran had no desire for nuclear weapons the United States accuses it of seeking, because we cannot use such weapons based on our Islamic and moral teachings." His comments during a meeting with Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the country's top military and political officials came as a three-member legal team from the International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN nuclear watchdog, met the government officials to discuss an additional protocol to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty that would allow inspections of Iran's nuclear facilities without notice. Khatami hinted that Iran might sign the protocol if the world recognised his country's right to the peaceful use of nuclear technology. Iran has always said it would agree to unfettered inspections if it is granted access to advanced nuclear technology as provided for under the non-proliferation treaty. Tehran says Washington is keeping Iran from getting that technology.

Black Activists Say, Get Rid of the Worthless "White Corporate Rump" that Is Weighing Down the Democratic Party - Starting With Mr. Maalox (aka Lieberman)!
From the Black Commentator: "White men are terrified of them – which explains why the poor fellows get all confused and vote against their own interests every time it is imagined that they – “special interests,” Blacks, unions, and the dangerous people who call for health care, jobs, peace and justice – are about to intrude on the “national conversation.” White men are insecure, especially the young ones. “"If Democrats can't close the security gap, then they can't be competitive in the next election," said Mark Penn, the snake oil pollster for the world’s most boringly repellant white man, Senator Joseph Lieberman, the DLC’s standard bearer in the Democratic primaries.
"The Democratic Leadership Council's appeal is empty, but its leadership's threat to undermine or desert the Party is real. Blacks and progressives must seize the opportunity to politically isolate and marginalize the DLC, whose role as distributors of corporate contributions has enabled them to subvert and co-opt otherwise honest Democrats. Blacks and progressives need more than just, in [Jesse] Jackson's words, "someplace else to go." They need "something highly politically organized within the Democratic Party just short of a third party" a place worth staying in. African Americans, especially, have made an investment in Democratic structures at every level of organization. Let the Right retreat to where they belong: the Republican Party!"

Waxman Slams Bush For Manipulating Scientific Facts to Fit His Corporate and/or Religious Fanatical Agenda
"The Bush administration has repeatedly mischaracterized scientific facts to bolster its political agenda in areas ranging from abstinence education and condom use to missile defense, according to a detailed report released yesterday by Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.)," reports the Washington Post. "The 40-page document was compiled by the minority staff of the House Government Reform Committee's special investigations division. The report is part of an effort to highlight simmering anger among scientists and others who believe Bush has, far more than any past president, spiked science with politics to justify conservative policies in areas such as reproductive rights, embryo research, energy policy and environmental health." So what was Bush's response? The same sorry line he uses as his excuse for EVERYTHING: the Democrats are just playing politics! At least they're not playing dice with Earth's future.
