CHERYL SEAL PROPAGANDA ALERT: WBAL Becoming Bush Propaganda Central?
An alert newshound I know called me today (7/15) to tell me that at approximately 5:15, a newscaster (Donna Hamilton) on WBAL TV stated that Korea had "hundreds of nuclear weapons" trained on the US and was ready to use them. A search through the WBAL website, a summary of the press conference held today by Donald Rumsfeld, who briefed reporters on No. Korea, and a search through world and Asian news services revealed no such story. In fact, the story that actually appeared at WBAL's site (see c1.zedo.com/ads2/f/24081/3853/255/0/162000116/162000116/0/162/87/zz-V1-abt_720x300_undertone.html)
stated only that No. Korea was reported to have sufficient plutonium from spent fuel rods to produce perhaps half a dozen nukes. HALF A DOZEN possible nukes. Not hundreds trained on the US this very minute. Just a slight little difference here, eh?
But lest we forget, WBAL is NBC, and NBC is the spawn of General Electric, a major peddler of everything from lightbulbs to war plane engines to the Pentagon. And, now that we have Bush buddy Bob Ehrlich ensconced in the governor's mansion, it would not surprise me to see our local newscasts turned into a nest of "mockingbirds," (**) singing the Bush administration's hysterical, fear-mongering songs.
Just when Bush needs a major terror-inspring crisis to divert the public, Voila! No. Korea is reported to be ready to nuke us! What's next if that scam fails? Airing an updated television version of Orson Well's "War of the Worlds" on NBC affiliates in an attempt to convince the clueless that Martians are attacking?
**mockingbirds, for those who don't know, are journalists who work with the CIA to plant stories in news outlets around the world aimed at furthering the agenda of the administration - specifically its military objectives. The program was rampant during the Vietnam war - Katharine Graham, grand dame of the Washington Post was an admitted mockingbird, who helped Nixon keep the war in Vietnam going an extra year to try to improve his chances at reelection. Graham withheld news of the true disastrous state of the war while running bogus stories of how well all was going.
