Ed Kinane was with the Iraq Peace Team in Baghdad from early February to early April -- including the three weeks of the "shock and awe" bombardment. Before the U.S. invasion, the Iraq Peace Team spent four days on the Kuwait/Iraq border.
Ed remained in Baghdad for several days after the U.S. marines occupied the city and set up a machinegun nest under his hotel window. He is a long-time human rights activist who has twice served federal prison sentences for his outspoken and nonviolent opposition to the U.S. Army's School of the Americas.
The Iraq Peace Team (IPT) is a project of the Chicago-based anti-war and anti-sanctions grassroots group, Voices in the Wilderness. Voices in the Wilderness is founded by three-time Nobel Peace prize nominee, Kathy Kelly. A portion of the donations for Ed’s talk will be given to the IPT.
