Some thoughts about the Baltimore to DC March
MONEY FOR EDUCATION AND HEALTHCARE, NOT FOR WAR !!!
About 45 people made it all the way from downtown Baltimore to Lafayette Park in DC yesterday. It took us 3 days to do it, all on foot.
The march was really well organized and we had 2 support vehicles, portable toilets, water and Gatorade, power bars, refreshments, etc. Kudos to the organizers!
The people from the Howard County Anti-War Coalition that hosted us Saturday night were nice beyond description. They organized a veritable feast for us with all kinds of delicious food, served us like we were royalty, and then housed us in their homes. All with smiles and delight. Every county should have an anti-war coalition like that!
Reception during the march: mixed. Somebody remarked, "All the waving hands are black and brown, all the fingers are white." Some of the things I've heard:
"We want war!"
"We want to kill babies!"
"Bomb Iraq!"
One guy even tried to assault the marches and had to be stopped by the cops.
Speaking of cops, the ones from PG County were real jerks. But what else is new? Those guys have a heck of a bad reputation.
The reception we got in College Park was great and overwhelmingly positive. Quite a change from the 50/50 reception we had along the way.
We walked 38.5 miles. Two medics did the march with us. We couldn't have made it without them! They attended to out tortured feet and blisters with utmost care. THANKS GUYS!
