Not In Our Name Youth and Students are calling for a National Youth Convergence in NYC in solidarity with the Kent State Anti-War Committee's second annual protest against the "War on Terror" on the anniversary of the killing of 4 Kent students during a protest against the Veitnam War. note - these rallies have been called as a conscious response to the difficult times we now face - as we watch the government's first-strike doctrine employed and repression of the movement at home grows. we wish to have a day full of inspiring events so we can celebrate the resistance movement that we must draw on to stop the growing war on the world. if you want to know more about the many creative forms of resistance folks will be bringing to these events and especially if you would like to add your ideas, please contact us.

May 4 - National Convergence NYC Central Park & Regional Convergence on Kent State

May 5 - In your school - Target ROTC with Protest/Civil Disobedience/ Direct Actions

These are truly dark days in our history. Our government has violated the very notions of democracy and freedom before all the watching world. And they have a plan to push forward with their criminal agenda.

In these dark times, yes; we mourn. Yes, we fear. But beyond all this, we acknowledge the powerful truths brought forward by our global movement. While the few waged war, the many responded in a surge protest - with determination beyond what bombs can silence.

Even the NY Times has had to concede, the world has a new superpower: THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD! We have the power to stop the Bush regime's drive to endless war!

We have the right to determine our future! At this moment in history, we know we must continue to celebrate and draw upon the tremendous power of this movement in order to move forward.

Yet as millions rise up in response to the attacks on Iraq and other countries, we are met with increased violence and repression meant to silence us. In only the last few months, we have witnessed protesters killed in Yemen and the Sudan, the murder of peace
activists in Palestine, protesters in Oakland shot with rubber bullets during a peaceful and legal protest, and the increasing brutality at every protest, including police officers‚ willingness to charge or drive into permitted spaces, beating, brutalizing, and running over activists. Just as we face the tragedy and horrors of a new war, we must face increasing measures of repression at home with stepped up resistance and defiance or become the next casualties of war.

This is why we have called for activists to come together on May 4, the thirty-third anniversary of the national guard opening fire on activists at Kent State, killing four students. We remember Kent State and the similar killings of two students on May 14, 1970 at Jackson State, by pledging through our actions to maintain a legacy of protest that can never be
silenced.

We, the youth, have watched the money for our already financially suffering schools cut even more for war. The ROTC are allowed into our schools, targeting those who are most hurt by the war here at home by giving them no other option for funding their education. The SEVIS program turns our colleges into informants by collecting personal information on international students and making it available to the INS, State Department, DOE, FBI, CIA and other federal agencies that want it. Many universities across the country are invested in the corporations who are profiting off of this war and will not either disclose these investments or give students a voice in who they invest with.

This is why we call on youth and all people of conscience to make their demands heard on May 5th. In schools and communities all around the country target SEVIS, ROTC, divestment and disclosure programs and issues with protest, civil disobedience and direct actions.

The youth have their whole lives left to live.
In this time, we must take part in building that future.
