The Maryland Action Collective is Proud to announce for RACE AND ACTIVISM, an event designed to explore the intersection between Race, Racism and Activism.
The event will take place this Tuesday March 11th at 7:00 in Jimenez room 0220.
The discussion will be largely shaped by the speakers including the following:
*Rami El-amine - (From the DC Anti-Capitalist Convergence and DC SUSTAIN ) on "Being an Arab activist after 9-11"
*Marco Del Fuego From Olive Branch Community and MayDay DC on "Latin American Activism in DC"
*Suncere Ali Shakur and Xan West of T.R.I.B.E. on "Black grassroots Activism in DC"
*Members of Organized C.O.U.P. topic TBA
*Isabel Smith from AFSCME College Park United on "Race and Campus Organizing"
This discussion should help DEBUNK THE MYTH that ONLY WHITES ARE ACTIVISTS and analyze who gets to defice "activism" and what progressive neighborhood organizing gets ignored as "activism." Further, this should help show how race and racism manifest in society in general and in the activist community in particular.
