The graduate students government (gsg) at the university of Maryland
College Park campus passed an anti war resolution on November 1 2002. The
gsg joined a growing movement of local governments and civic institution
who have condemned the threatened war on Iraq. For a list of
resolutions passed see
www.citiesforpeace.org/ .
The effort to pass the resolution at College Park was lead by the
Peace Forum (
www.umcp.org/index.php/PeaceForum) with the crucial help of
members of the graduate and adjunct union (
galol.org) the
Muslim Student Association and Students for Justice in Palestine.
The passage of the resolution was a formal recognition of the
strength of the anti war sentiment on campus, especially amongst
graduate students. In fact, despite its best efforts the peace forum
was unable to find any graduate students willing to participate in a
recent debate and represent the argument for war.
