BALTIMORE CITY COUNCIL PASSES RESOLUTION AGAINST WAR WITH IRAQ
Anti-war Resolution is passed overwhelmingly.
The Baltimore City Council passed Resolution 02-0944, opposing war with Iraq, on Monday, December 9 by a vote of 18 for it, and one abstention. Keiffer Mitchell abstained. The vote was taken at the regular Monday meeting of the City Council.
The City Council's Judiciary and Legislative Investigations Committee held a public hearing on the Resolution on November 20. Every speaker at the hearing supported the Resolution.
It is most appropriate that the City Council voted for this Resolution against war on the day of Phil Berrigan's funeral. Berrigan was the conscience of the country and Baltimore's apostle of peace. The City Council could not have found a better way to honor Phil Berrigan's memory than by voting for peace.
