Pan Korean Committee Hunger Striking

*** PAN-KOREAN COMMITTEE ON HUNGER STRIKE AT WHITE HOUSE!! PLEASE GO TO THE WHITE HOUSE BEFORE 1PM SATURDAY TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!! THEY WILL BE THERE ALL NIGHT IN THE FRIGID TEMPERATURES!!! ***
After the Press Conference this morning, the
Pan-Korean Committee tried to give the petition signed
by 1.3 million Koreans to the White House, but
the petition was refused by the White House.
Immediately after the refusal from the Whitehouse,
Reverend Han had written a petition in blood, and the
Committee had decided to go on a hunger strike in the
front of the Whitehouse until 1:00pm tomorrow (they
are planning on spending the night there).

Because some police officers allegedly gave them a
hard time for striking in front of the white House
while also having a permit at Freedom Plaza, the
Pan-Korean Committee decided to cancel the Photo
Exhibition so that they could continue their hunger
strike at the White House.

The Committee will be divided into two groups tonight
so that one group can be present at tonight's event.

Background information:

This Friday and Saturday, DCAPJ, other local groups
will be welcoming and supporting the Pan-Korean
Committee on the Two Girls Killed by a U.S. Armored
Vehicle arriving in the U.S. to call attention to
injustice in the case of two Korean girls killed by a
U.S. armored military vehicle this past summer.

The heartless reponse and cover-up, ending in the
acquittal on November 22 of two U.S. soldiers accused
of negligent homicide, has reignited waves of protest
over the U.S. military presence in South Korea. Last
week's demonstrations in South Korea included dozens
of protesters storming a U.S. military base. In
response to the protests, President Bush finally
apologized for the incident last week. However, most
Koreans feel that the apology is too little, too late,
and many are coming to see the deployment of 37,000
U.S. troops in South Korea as a major impediment to
peace, democracy, and reunification of the Korean
people.

The delegation plans to hold a press conference
(Friday) to announce their plans to picket the White
House to demand that President Bush accept
a petition signed by 1.3 million Koreans. The petition
is to for the South Korean government to have legal
jurisdiction over the actions of U.S. soldiers
stationed in their country. The U.S. Embassy has
refused to accept the petitions.
