In commemoration of 26oct02 and what has becme an annual celebration of International Day Against Racism and War one year ago on 27oct01 ANSWER sponsored a Stop the War and End Racism March in WDC from which this photo was taken moments after the march stepped-off as are the photos in the link indicated below.
On 27oct01 and in a similar way as they have organized "Stop the War On Iraq!" demonstrations for 26oct02 ANSWER sponsored a "Stop War and End Racism" March in WDC as well as in other locations throughout the world.
In WDC they first assembled at the Washington Post located at 15/L NW for a 12 noon rally. Escorted by motorcycle cops the march proceeded downtown along 15th to Eye Street and then veered onto Vermont Avenue to H Street where at the northeast corner of Lafayette Park demonstrators paused but did not stand still and with loud chants and bullhorns in hand shouted in the direction of the White House for 15-minutes which is located just across the park. On a chilly, damp and cloudy day in late October the march then moved forward along H Street and down 14th to Pennsylvania Avenue where they turned left and headed east on their last leg en route to their destination, the Department of Justice, located on Pennsylvania Avenue between 9th and 10th Streets where a second but larger rally was held as various groups had converged along the way. At that point as it was beginning to rain and since I had run out of film I departed and returned home.
