Quaker Women Vigil For Peace
On October 20 100-150 Quaker women and their friends vigiled for peace outside of the Pentagon.
Over 100 women from across the US gathered by the edge of the Pentagon parking lot on October 20th to hold a peace vigil and mark the beginning of International Disarmament Week.
The four-hour mostly silent vigil was organized by Quaker Women for a Culture of Peace and called for a "transformation from a culture of war to a culture of peace and radical equality."
One common sign read "Women's Half of the Pentagon for a Hospital," a referance to the original intent of the Pentagon during WWII.
Both Quaker and non-Quaker women attended the vigil, some coming from as far as Seattle, WA and Ithica, NY.
