Local Groups Join National Days of Protest
Bailout the People, Not the Banks

What: Protest and Speak Out to Bail Out the People, Not the Banks

Where: Federal Reserve Bank, Baltimore Branch at 502 S. Sharp St.

When: Saturday, Oct. 25, 12:00 P.M.

Community, labor and student activists will protest on October 25 to highlight
the
inequality between the trillion dollar bailout of the banks and the lack of
emergency
measures for the vast majority of people impacted by the economic crisis.

The group is calling on government officials to take emergency measures
immediately
this winter for the people including: a moratorium on foreclosures and
evictions;
freeze on layoffs and extension of unemployment benefits; a winter halt on
utility
shut offs; money for schools and books, not Wall St. crooks; protection for
pensions
and savings; a dept cancellation and protection program for all workers; and
measures
to make sure people have food and oil.

Renee Washington, a community activist, stated, “If the government can hand over
trillions of our dollars to wealthy bankers, they need to extend emergency aide
and measures to make sure that hundreds of thousands of ordinary people don’t
fall
through the cracks.”

“Out protest on October 25th is part of a larger nationwide effort that is
launching
a ‘Bailout the People Movement’. In Baltimore we are beginning a community wide
campaign to take our demands to City Council and the State Government.”
