It didn't work-here's the Palomar and its delegates getting a wakeup call!
Another noisy hotel standoff
Another view of the police occupation of Dupont Circle that was supposed to pre-empt the pot-and-
pan wakeup call
Waking up the Renaissance Hotel at 2 AM
Police came within a whisker of entirely pre-empting this protests but this part of the policing was defeated by a combination of courage and trickery.
Knowing a call was out to meet there, the cops occupied Dupont Circle with an overwhelming presence-yet people still managed fo find oneanother and form up.
Capt Harold warned that the slightest excuse would lead to arrests-yet police orders to disperse and not make noise were defied.
The first target was delegates at Dupont Circle's Palomar Hotel on P st, at the St Gregory, where the noisy pots and pans crew, maybe 50 strong, managed to make a very loud racket for maybe ten minutes. Next in line was the St Gregory, where things got quite tense for a while.
After this, the cops threatened arrests if any more noisemakers were used. From this point, people went to several more hotels with singing only.
This was the "pump-fake": after about 1/2 hour of this BS, people met in an open space and came to consensus to call it a night. Cops then backed off a bit, no longer swarming up so close-and a quick running charge got protesters to two hotels(one the St Gregory for a second dose) far enough ahead of the cops to break out the pots and pans and wake up the bankers inside-GOTCHA!
