Congress Goes On Recess Without Giving Telecoms Immunity

Washington, D.C: In spite of President Bush's appeals to the contrary, the U.S. House of Representatives has gone on a twelve-day recess without passing a new domestic-spying bill that would grant immunity from lawsuits to telecom companies that have already cooperated with the government's warrantless spying program. President Bush claims that Congress' lack of action is making the country less safe while some congressional members refuse to give immunity without knowing just what type of activity telecom companies have been involved in. The Senate gave the President everything he wanted earlier this week. The current domestic-spying law is set to expire on Saturday, February 16.
