“We would ask assistance from the British Government in this regard to set up a UN probe into it,” the newly elected co-chairman of the PPP and husband of Benazir, Asif Ali Zardari told reporters at Bhutto’s ancestral Naudero House in Larkana.
Holding President Pervez Musharraf’s regime responsible for the death of Benazir in a gun and suicide attack in Rawalpindi on Thursday, Zardari said, “We all know who is responsible for her death.’
“I don’t have take the name as the world knows it from the e-mail that Benazir had asked to release after her death,” he said.
In the e-mail sent to her friend and lobbyist Mark Siegel shortly after the first attempt on her life on October 18, Benazir wrote that if she was harmed in Pakistan she would ”hold Musharraf responsible.”
She had asked that the e-mail be send out only if she was killed.
Refuting the Pakistan Government’s claim that Benazir died in the blast shockwave in which she was hit by the lever of the SUV’s sunroof, Zardari said that the government has probably not inspected the vehicle since the lever they are talking about is actually made of rubber.
On being questioned about the government’s comment that he had refused to give permission to conduct an autopsy of Benazir, Zardari said that he chose not to give the permission since “it would have been an insult to my wife’.
“We do not need a post mortem to prove the cause of her death,” he added. (ANI)
