Neocon-Lite Sen. Mikulski Sets Dems’ Cynical Agenda

The 2008 presidential election is heating up. Neocon-Lite Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), in a spiel in the Baltimore Examiner, blasted President George W. Bush for shortchanging national priorities because of the cost of the Iraq War. She failed to mention, however, that she has been an enabler of that conflict and has done nothing to end it. The cynical Democratic Party strategy is to let the Iraq War continue and to blame Bush for everything.

You could see it coming a block away! I’m talking about the Democrats’ cynical gambit for capturing the White House in 2008! It goes like this: Let the Iraq War drag on and on, with our brave troops dying daily in combat, and/or sustaining serious injuries; but, don’t do anything to stop the funding for the conflict. Then, blame the horrific results of the war on our Uber-President, George W. Bush! (Keep in mind that this is the war which ex-Lt. Gen. William E. Odom has labeled: “The greatest strategic mistake in our history.”) Leave it to Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski (D-MD), Neocon-Lite herself, to lead that deceitful campaign. In a front page spiel for the Baltimore Examiner, on Dec. 24, 2007, she laid out the anti-Bush themes that Democratic operatives will be mouthing, ad nauseam, in 2008. Sen. Mikulski, of course, left out the fact that she, along with many of her cronies, have been complicit in many of the wrongdoings of the Bush-Cheney Gang.

On the same day that Sen. Mikulski’s rant appeared, the Baltimore Sun printed the names of seven more U.S. troops recently killed in Iraq. This brings the total fatalities to 3900, with 897 dying since the Democrats took control of the Congress in January, 2007. Two of the troops were only nineteen years of age, four of them were in their twenties, and one was thirty four years of age. They are all dead because the Democrats, like the crafty Sen. Mikulski, have failed to keep their word to the American people, given prior to the election of 2006. At that time, the Democrats had promised that if they took control of Congress, they would end the conflict. The damnable liars did nothing of the sort. As a result, the endless war goes on.

Although, Sen. Mikulski voted against the Iraq War, she has, lap-dog-like, aided the funding of that blood bath to the tune of $480 billion--plus. (2) She whined in the Examiner piece, about how Donald Rumsfeld had supposedly claimed that “Iraq’s oil revenues” would pay for the war. It wasn’t Rumsfeld, but that raving Neocon, the then Deputy Secretary of Defense, Paul Wolfowitz. He told the Congress, on March 27, 2003: “The oil revenue of that country [Iraq] could bring between $50 and $100 billion over the next two or three years...We are dealing with a country that can really finance its own reconstruction and relatively soon.” (3) Wolfowitz, a brazen blowhard, was one of the prime architects of the Iraq War. He is also a close confidante of the convicted felon, Irv “Scooter” Libby, a/k/a “Dick Cheney’s gofer.” The war, to date, has cost the Iraqi people an estimated 1.2 million lives. (4) Why did Mikulski try to blame Rumsfeld?

Naturally, Sen. Mikulski didn’t challenge Wolfowitz's assertion about how the war was going to be funded, nor is there any evidence that she ever took the Bush-Cheney Gang to task about any of its serial lies that launched our nation into the Iraq War. (5) The idea that the Congress is suppose to be a check and balance on the Executive branch of government has never entered her mind. The U.S. Constitution for her, and Bush, too, is just a piece of paper. This is the same Sen. Mikulski, who boasted to an audience of rabid Israeli Firsters that she gets “daily” phone calls from the AIPAC honchos. (6) She also voted for the USA Patriot Act, not once, but twice! The notion that Sen. Mikulski, a coat holder for Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY), is some kind of champion of the underdog is pure b... s...! By repeatedly failing to curtail the excesses of the Bush-Cheney Gang, she has disgraced her office.

How would you like to have a family member in Iraq today, in harm’s way, knowing that the half-baked President Bush ordered them there, as Rep. Bob Filner (D-CA) underscored: “To save his face?” (7) Realize, also, that Sen. Mikulski is letting President Bush get away with this insanity, because it’s all part of the national Democratic Party’s rotten scheme to win the presidential election in 2008! If there is a hell, the Democrats in the Congress, such as Mikulski; House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA); Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV), Rep. Tom Lantos (D-CA), Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL), Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD), et al, who are willing accomplices in this ploy, will deserve a special place in it.

I find it interesting, too, how a phony, such as Sen. Mikulski, can generate a front page article about Bush’s skewed national priorities, that implicitly supports a continuation of the Iraq War for years to come. Yet, if you pushed her, she will insist that she’s anti-war. What a bloody fake she is! If Sen. Mikulski were really antiwar, she would be inspiring articles against the unjust war, speaking out against it at every opportunity, and leading the charge in the Congress, like Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH), Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), and a handful of other courageous politicos, have done, to cut off the funding for the conflict. The next time, Sen. Mikulski attends a rally for peace, it will be her first!

In the Examiner article, Sen. Mikulski also complained about the war costing “$4 billion to $5 billion a week.” I have no idea where she got those kind of numbers from, but the relevant point is this: Whatever the exact cost of the war is--and the amount is surely outrageous--she has voted, without objection, to funding it. Sen. Mikulski’s mantra is that she has done so in order to “protect the troops.” How she “protects” the troops by sending them into the hell hole that is Occupied Iraq to face all kinds of dangers, including breathing in the toxic waste that is depleted uranium, is beyond my comprehension. If that is her notion of protection, then maybe, she should demand that the warmongering Neocons, such as William Kristol and Richard Perle, to do a tour of duty in Iraq. With the suicide rate of returning U.S. veterans hitting as high as 17 a day, Sen. Mikulski owes the public a detailed explanation for her dubious rationale for justifying this ongoing waste of lives.

Sen. Mikulski bragged in the article: “I love my job. I think ‘I’m really fit for duty.’ And I intend to be doing it a very long time.” Well, I’ve got news for the egocentric Sen. Mikulski, she’s not ‘fit for duty.’ And, she not ‘fit’ to hold an office of such high public trust as a U.S. Senator. In a just world, Sen. Mikulski would be impeached for violating the public trust and removed from office, along with that whacky duo of President Bush and V.P. Cheney.

The Wire Pullers of the national Democratic Party will be patting Sen. Mikulski on the head for getting a front page article out that spotlights their deceptive message for the electorate. It is a message that also reinforces the myth that there are substantial differences between the Democratic and Republican Parties. Meanwhile, our sons and daughters are dying in Iraq, without just cause, in a war of choice, that Sen. Mikulski has consistently enabled. Lt. Gen. Odom also warned: “The longer we stay in Iraq, the worse it will get...We squander American lives and money, and lose allies and the moral authority [that] we need.” (8)

In summation, for a majority of the Democrats in the Congress to collude in the perpetuation of the Iraq War in order to advance their own selfish political ambitions in the 2008 presidential election is beneath contempt. Shame on them! Shame on Sen. Mikulski!
