According to Warren Police Detective Randall Ricotta, the guard, a 44-year-old Warren man employed as an auxiliary officer with the Inkster Police Department, discharged his weapon at about 11:30 p.m. after a suspect he previously removed from Night Star Café & Karaoke ran him down in the parking lot.

“Apparently there was an intoxicated subject over at this little café and he was asked to leave. Apparently the subject and some other subjects attacked the Inkster officer,” Ricotta said.

Witnesses said the officer put the man into his car and began walking back toward another car outside of the business. Ricotta said that at that point the suspect accelerated into the officer, striking him from behind and throwing him up and over the hood of the car.

The suspect reportedly stopped the vehicle and then attempted to turn it around.

Fearing for his safety should the suspect attempt to run into him again, the security guard told police, he discharged his weapon.

“He drew his weapon and fired two rounds at the vehicle, unknown as to their effect,” Ricotta said.

Police said no victims matching the description of the suspect had been admitted to local hospitals at press time.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a white four-door import. The suspect was described as an Asian male, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing about 140 pounds.

Ricotta said it was unclear what sparked the confrontation inside of the café.

The suspect was reportedly intoxicated when he arrived at the establishment, which is not licensed to serve alcohol.

“[The suspect] had a problem with some of the girls inside. They ended up throwing him out,” Ricotta said. “The problem continued outside, words were exchanged, but he [the guard] didn’t understand what they were saying.”

Ricotta said the establishment is a popular gathering place for residents of Hmong descent.

Police had no suspects at press time.

The Inkster officer reportedly had a handgun and a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon. He is not expected to face charges.
