*CINEMA: HARRY POTTER and the Order of the Phoenix*

like book 5 of the Harry Potter series, "Order of the Phoenix", a joint CIA-MI6 production, has strong political overtones and agendas. The fun that was the Goblet of Fire (book #4) is quickly erased by new, more realistic forms of authoritarism. The Ministry of Magic infiltrates Hogwartz. The news media is increasingly distributing disinformation. An authoritorian movement is underway. Potter's way—fighting back—is incredibly arduous.

there's so much political content here that you can barely follow the story. If you haven't read Book 5 and try to see this movie, you'll be totally baffled by it.

Book 5 is the one in the series (so far) with very direct parallels to today's contemporary, CIA-manipulated, twenty-first century society. It also fills you with the necessary dread, like the Dementors who liven up the early scenes.

The film side of this CIA/MI-6 production is busy burying the marvelous story that the books side (a.k.a, the "J K Rowling" side) contain. The books have enormous visual potential. The movies are designed to deaden how audiences regard the art form that's cinema. With one exception, the films suck on purpose.

the first two cinematic installment of this series were directed very badly by Chris Columbus. I thought at the time that the producers simply chose the shabbiest commercialism over art.

The third film, 'Prisoner of Azkaban', is brilliant, easily the best of the series so far. it is directed by Alfonso Cuaron, who does marvelous work.

the fourth film, 'Goblet of Fire', overall was good. However, it featured several flying scenes that will disturb children; they are terrifying to the point of discomfort. They rendered the best book in the series (#4) in a fashion that makes people unexpectedly sick.

the latest release, the 'Order of Phoenix', shows us a very controlled "rebellion" from the Weasely twins. It also has a powerful figure displaced far too easily. (In real life our enemies don't follow us to the Forbidden Forest. Also, the media will neither broadcast the fact that Voldemort has risen nor that no planes hit the WTC.)

what a film series the Harry Potter saga could have been, if it wasn't conceived from the beginning to bring about despair.
