Some more thoughts about this great Wimbledon final. the first set, which Federer won in a tie-break, was as a great as any tennis set i've seen (since 1980). it was a very scary moment for Federer fans when Hawkeye gave Nadal the set point back in the tie-break.

the second set was great for Nadal fans. i think this is he hit a wrong-footed winner while falling down. he also had some amazing passes from well behind the baseline.

the third set was another Federer tie-break, played at a very high level by both.

the fourth set was fascinating because suddenly it appeared that Federer had lost his mind. he was down 0-4, 0-30, and appeared to be on the verge of being bageled. Nadal was playing at the top of his mighty game. Federer seemed on the verge of tears when he asked the umpire if Hawkeye—which had given about four crucial points to Nadal—could be turned off.

the fifth set was a classic. Federer recovered from 15-40 twice, serving like Pete Sampras did in the most crucial points. How does Federer, who serves well but never spectacularly, manage to channel Sampras at this time? how does this man become the greatest tennis player ever when he needs to?

the final moment was as thrilling as when Borg finally collapsed in 1980. Federer hits an overhead and collapses in tears immediately afterwards. this was a very memorable winning moment for 2007 sports.
