June 10 March to end the Occupation fizzles in Washington
Nearly a year in the planning stages and organizers were left shaking their heads in disbelief. With buses coming from as far as Detroit and Cleveland, it was expected that tens of thousands would converge on Washington DC to demand an end to the "Israeli occupation".
Instead, the buses arrived empty, or filled with supporters of Israel, who immediately defected to a pro-Israel counter protest that had been scheduled at the last moment.
Mainstream media estimated attendence at the march on Washington at "several hundred". Washington IMC estimated attendence at around "a thousand". Nonetheless, after promoting this event for nearly a pyear, and spending tens of thousands of dollars, the organizers were left baffled, and wondering if anyone really cared about the Palestinian people, after all.
