The day after hundreds of protesters marched on Next Day Staffing, the Camden Yards temp agency sought a court order to prevent the United Workers from talking to workers as they arrive to and leave from work. A press conference was held today in front of Next Day Staffing.
The United Workers held a press conference today to address the court order that Next Day is seeking in response to last weekend's march to protest the mistreatment of workers by Camden Yards temp agency. Next Day Staffing is one of several temp agencies who provide labor for the Maryland Stadium Authority, the public agency that owns Camden Yards. The day after hundreds of protesters marched on Next Day offices, a sheriff was sent to the United Workers office with a summons for a temporary peace order. The order would prevent a lead organizer at United Workers from speaking with workers as they arrive to and leave from work.
During today's press conference, workers spoke to the heart of the matter, expressing outrage over the attempt to silence workers to prevent them from getting organized.
After making a statement to the press, a member of the United Workers issued a "Worker Rights Summons," to Next Day Staffing. The summons charged the temp agency with wage and labor violations, calling on the Maryland Stadium Authority to stop wait times, van charges and worker mistreatment.
The cleaners are demanding a living wage for all the cleaners at Camden Yards. After three years of broken promises, the workers are fed up and have set a deadline of Sept 1 to get to a binding solution and to living wages for the workers at the publicly owned stadium.

Also, be sure to mark your calendar for the Sept 8 Concert for Human Rights. This will be the United Workers largest protest ever, with music and protest to either celebrate victory or move protests up a notch if the Sept 1 is not met. Mark your calendar.
