Anti-Rate Hike Coalition Call for Hold Press Conference and Demonstration in Response to PSC Increase Approval

Baltimore, MD, May 23, 2007 - The Maryland Coalition to Stop the BGE Rate Hike plans to hold a mass demonstration and press conference to respond to the Wednesday May 23rd Public Service Commission's approval of the BGE rate hike of 50% for BGE residential customers. The press conference will begin at 4:45 PM at the Constellation Energy Building at 750 East Pratt Street.

Following weeks of community education, mobilization and agitation, various community associations, organization, activists and politicians have banded together to initiate a new phase of opposition to the recently approved rate hike. The Coalition will announce its first major actions to implant the resolutions from its April Spring Energy to halt BGE's rate hike.

Speaking in support of the Coalition's demands will be members of the State House of Delegates, local political leaders, and community organizations such as the All People's Congress, Baltimore Green Party, Baltimore NAACP, Democracy 4 Baltimore and Uhuru Movement.

The Maryland Coalition to Stop the BGE Rate Hike is an umbrella organization of various community groups, activists and concerned citizens who have been working together for over a year to stop the energy rate hike for over 1.3 million BGE residential customers.
