Immigration agents from I.C.E. arrested 69 people on March 29 who worked for Under Amour and Jones Industrial Network. In an instant mothers were separated from their children and wives from their husbands.
Daysi Lopez, 24, said the school her 7-year-old brother attends called her house after her mother didn't pick him up because she had been arrested. Jesenia Lazo held her sister-in-law's four-month-old child, David Lazo, who had not been breast-fed since his mother was arrested. "The child was born here, he is only four months old," Lazo said in Spanish. "We are asking the people from immigration to please return them."
These workers like many others have been forced to leave their own countries because of the economic havoc caused by U.S. imposed policies like NAFTA, CAFTA and FTA. They are not the cause of low wages or loss of jobs—it is the giant greedy multinational corporations who are the cause. The solution is to unite and demand right’s for all workers.
NATIONWIDE RAIDS ARE AIMED AT STOPPING IMMIGRANT RIGHTS MOVEMENT
It comes as no surprise that the number of raids sweeping the country have increased since last year’s historic demonstrations of millions of immigrant workers and their supporters. This year immigrant rights organizations have again called for "The Great American Boycott II" to take place on May 1, 2007 to demand "Legalization for all Immigrants", "Stop the Raids and Deportations", "Protect Workers Rights".
The racist, terrorist raids are meant to silence the movement and force immigrant workers and their families back into the shadows of society where they can be super-exploited even more with no rights at all. This super-exploitation of immigrant workers encourages multinational corporations to lower wages for all workers. We cannot allow ICE and the police to do this!
These kinds of injustices must end now! Like the indiscriminate and illegal arrests that target the African American and poor communities in Baltimore—we must say no! Every worker everywhere deserves union pay, a living wage, respect and full rights!
