Almodovar likes to photograph and write stories with complex plotlines that show women, with all their faults and beauty, enduring hard times. in typical Almodovar fashion, the leading male
in this story is little more than a lizard-brain looking to impregnate what he can. he loves the color red, and uses it to create dramatic, erotic tension when appropriate.

Almodovar is very witty at times with the story. he certainly could not have made this film work without at least one dead body in the freezer of a newly popular restaurant.

Penelope Cruz, Carmen Maura, Lola Duenas, Blanca Portillo and Yohana Cobo are all good. however, Almodovar is always the principal character. that's him up on the screen being portrayed by so many great ladies.)
