Volunteer Workshop: Saturday Jan 20th noon
At the office of the United Workers Association (UWA) 3325 E. Baltimore St.

In 2005 the UWA won a wage increase and the right to represent the stadium cleaners in a historic agreement with the Camden Yards cleaning contractor. However Peter Angelos, the owner of the Baltimore Orioles, broke his promise to the pay the cleaners at Camden Yards at least the city's living wage. Cleaners are still paid sub-poverty wages, Many cleaners take home an average of less than $4.50 an hour. We've protested at the stadium, held an all night vigil in front of Angelos' offices and followed Angelos to the 2006 All Star Game. Enough is enough. This year we're asking Angelos to either honor his word or to personally arrange and participate in a series of face to face talks between the Orioles, the Maryland Stadium Authority and the United Workers Association.

Please Join us at our volunteer workshop to learn more about the UWA and the many ways in which you can get involved:
-Help plan our Public-Sector Poverty tour
-Participate in our neighborhood survey
-Use your foreign language skills to help reach out to immigrant workers.
-Document worker's stories in our workers interview project.
Poverty is not an absolute. Use your skills to help expose the conditions of poverty and change the system that creates it.

See ya folks there,
UWA
