At a debate on the situation at the Middle East, including Palestine, Malmierca criticized Security Council passivity towards such flagrant violations.

He reaffirmed Cuba"s support to a just, peaceful solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict and the Palestinian people"s right to a sovereign and independent state with East Jerusalem as capital.

Malmierca recalled that since the Security Council meeting on October 19 the situation at the Middle East further deteriorated, namely in Palestinian occupied territory.

Still, and in addition to the terrible massacre in Beit Hanoun on November 8, the Security Council has not be able to act.

On November 11, the US 31st veto prevented the approval of a draft resolution submitted by Qatar on behalf of the Arab nations on the Palestinian situation.

Such passivity not only affects its already harmed credibility but reinforces the impunity with which Israel acts sheltered by US forsaken veto.

He recalled that the situation made them resort to the General Assembly where all "countries act as equals, banning the antidemocratic and obsolete veto right." The General Assembly resolution sent a mission to investigate the developments in Beit Hanoun and submit a report within one month.

The also chairman of the Non Aligned Movement Coordination Bureau recalled the situation in Lebanon and called for full respect for that country"s sovereignty and integrity.

Cuba hails Lebanon"s fulfillment of its duties, including its armed forces deployment in the south and its cooperation with UN Peace Keeping Troops.

Malmierca also called Israel to meet its duties and stop all provocation against Lebanon, including constant violation of its air space.
