Cuba Claims Justice in Posada Carriles Case

Cuban National Assembly (parliament) President Ricardo Alarcon demanded here on Tuesday that the US government extradite terrorist Luis Posada Carriles to Venezuela or tries him for his crimes.

The Parliamentarian leader recalled that Posada Carriles has a pending trial in Caracas, which he avoided after his escape from a prison there in 1985.

Alarcon highlighted that the criminal will be tried in the South American country for blowing up a Cuban plane with 73 passengers on board, 30 years ago.

He said that crime is well described in an international agreement signed in Montreal in 1971, about repression of illegal actions against civil-aviation security.

He said article seven of that pact establishes that if the government, in the territory of which the criminal is, does not proceed to extradition, it will submit the case to its competent authorities to try the person (s) involved, without any exception, no matter if the crime was committed there or not.

Alarcon also said a 90-day period has been granted to the White House by a federal judge to present a written report of the reasons why the criminal should be released.
