Register for Classes at Baltimore Free University

This week represents the last chance to register for fall classes ranging from cooking, to philosophy, to financial topics. Registration is by phone or in person at The Village Learning Place at 2521 St. Paul Street in lower Charles Village.

This Thursday, Oct. 5, is the last day to register at The Village Learning Place (VLP), which is open until 8 p.m. that night. Registration costs $10 and teachers are teaching for free. Course schedules are available there. The VLP phone number is 410-235-2210.

The Baltimore Free University is inspired by the idea of community and communities coming together to share and exchange knowledge and dialogue.

One staff member said VLP may take late registrations in person on Friday, Oct. 6 during the VLP's open hours between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. However, that is not guarenteed.

Classes range from "Early Dialogues of Plato" by a Johns Hopkins University professor Ed Hopkins, which begins on a weekly Tuesday night basis starting on Oct. 10, to one-day classes in "Preparing for Home Ownership" and "Estate Planning."

"Women and Wellness is being taught for two Wednesday nights in October by PhD candidate Tracy Brown. "Real Estate 101" is being taught for two Saturday afternoons in November by estate and trust attorney Joann Butler.

Other six week classes include "The Class Struggle and the Road to Socialism," an open discussion "Philosophy Cafe," and "Films Worth Talking About."

The Baltimore Free University is a project backed by the The Village Learning Place and the Johns Hopkins Center for Social Concern.

The Village Learning Place is located at 2521 St. Paul Street, Baltimore, Maryland.
