Diebold PR exercise in progress

Just ran into Diebold PR flacks in the Giant at the Rotunda. Seems that on the heels of the recent voting machine debacle, Diebold is trying to asuage the fears of the public by showing off their voting machines with guys in suits to sound authorative and reassuring(incidentally wearing name badges that identified them both as Diebold representatives and Maryland Board of Elections representatives!)
Anyway, it was fun to harass them about the security through obscurity of their machines' software, the fact that their machines' locks are easily opened with an easly obtainable hotel mini-bar key, their company president's statements about making sure Ohio went to Bush before the presidential election, the lack of verifiable non-digital records produced by their machines, and the recent Ed Felten/Princeton research demonstrating how to take over a Diebold machine in five minutes with a new memory card. If you see these jokers spreading their lies somewhere in town, give it a try!
