Democracy School: What Would Baltimore Look Like

The following is a response to the question, "what would democracy school look like in Baltimore."
If you're asking "what would the democracy school look like in Maryland," it would be a three day weekend of about 15 people engaging in the study and discussion about really taking back power for the people.

Surely someone would ask, "what about all the jobs and economic activiey created by corporations?" In answering the question, people might learn about the 3-pronged strategy of this movement: a) fight the pressing battles of the day, b) fight the multi-generational struggle to reclaim power for humans from corporations, and c) research and develop alternative institutions, including economic modes, for our society.

Hopefully, at the end of the seminar, a subset of people would continue to be part of the multi-generational struggle to put people in control, rather than the plutocracy (the small minority that make use of corporate power to amass wealth, and have undue influence over society.)

If you're asking "what would such a movement look like in Baltimore, what would people do with the new found knowledge about the roots of corporate power and the potential for true rule by the people over corporations," then visit the web link in the original post to see the links to examples from other communities across the country.

Example: In PA, small townships are writing defining laws that build on State and federal constitutions and founding charters to reestablish human primacy and soverignty over corporations.

Example: In Humbolt County, CA the people just passed a referrendum "T" that makes campaign contributions illegal for corporations that are not based in Humbolt county. The list of tangible steps being taken across the country is growing, and Baltimore would start to look like the other "abolitionist" communities, and history would look favorably on Baltimore.

Finally, see the following link that describes a tangible example here in Baltimore: IndyMedia Article about precluding corporate cut-out stores on the Avenue of Hampden
