Save the Living Wages Co-Op at Camden Yards!
Workers will “Show up to Work” demanding the 20 living wage jobs that were promised by the Stadium’s contractor.
5:00 PM-Please Meet at Health Care for the Homeless (111 Park Ave) for staging/preparation
Backgound:
Camden Yards (Orioles' stadium) is the city's largest employer of day labor. Day laborers, those who do not have steady employment and must seek a new job every day, seek work either on the corners, or, in the case of the Camden Yards workers, at "temp agencies".
By changing Camden Yards, we can change the entire industry. Currently, cleaners at the stadium earn $7/hour, and are exploited by the temp agencies that hire them. Before the UWA began its work, cleaners earned $4/hour, which was both unethical and illegal.
After two years of campaigning, the contractor who hires the temp agencies to do the work has agreed to give our worker owned co-op 20 living wage jobs at the stadium. But now, the Orioles' management and owners are standing in the way!
Thank you!
